Am I eligible for a free NHS flu jab

You are eligible to receive an NHS flu jab if you:

  • are 50 years of age or over
  • are a Health or Social Care worker
  • are pregnant
  • are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
  • are a carer
  • are a household contact of an immunocompromised individual
  • are a household contact of Shielded Patient
  • are a care home or domiciliary care worker
  • have certain medical conditions including:
    • Asthma or COPD
    • Kidney disease
    • Neurological disease (history of stroke, Parkinson’s disease etc.)
    • Diabetes (even if diet controlled)
    • Asplenia or splenic dysfunction
    • Heart disease
    • Liver disease
    • Morbid obesity
    • A weakened immune system due to disease or treatment


I am not eligible for the flu jab on the NHS. Can I still get one?

YES. If you do not qualify for a FREE NHS flu jab you can still pay for one at the pharmacy. Take advantage of our early bird offer and receive your flu jab for £9 before October 31st (£10 thereafter).

Is this the same flu jab I would get at my GP surgery?

YES. We administer exactly the same jab as you would receive at your GP surgery without the hassle of booking an appointment or sitting in a waiting room for hours on a Saturday morning.

Which flu jab do you use?

Those aged over 65 will be offered a Trivalent vaccine called FluAD© which contains an extra ingredient to boost your immune system as recommended by the NHS.

Those between 18-64 years old will be offered a quadrivalent vaccine in line with the guidance issued by the NHS.

I turn 65 in a few months. Can I get a FREE NHS Flu Jab?

If you are turning 65 before 31st March of the following year, you will be eligible to receive a FREE flu jab from September.

Is there anyone who should not have the jab?

There are a few people. You should not be vaccinated if you:

  • Have a serious allergy to hens eggs
  • Have had an allergic reaction to a previous flu vaccine
  • Are allergic to latex (or rarely certain medicines)

Flu vaccines are safe at all stages of pregnancy

Can the flu jab cause flu?

The World Health Organisation approved vaccines that are used contain no live virus; therefore it is impossible to give you flu.

Does having the jab protect you for life?

You will need to be vaccinated every year as the flu virus constantly changes.

Are there any side effects

Side effects are extremely uncommon. Some people may feel a slight soreness in the arm where they had the injection. Occasionally a slight temperature or headache 24 hours after the jab may be experienced.
